Sexting
They may physically seem mature. The language that they use may seem mature. But they are still children.
According to the Associated Press, over 25% of young people have sexted – sharing sexually explicit photos, videos and chat by cell phone or online. What many of these young people are not aware is that in Florida, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania this is a crime – a felony crime.
Research shows that pre-teen and teenage brains are not mature enough to make good decisions.
I have seen young girls pregnant at age 11. Many young people aren’t aware of the consequences of their actions and how they can have an effect on their later lives as employers check the web prior to hiring. The question is who is responsible for controlling this behavior. Does this responsibility lie with the family or will schools wind up having to deal with this as well as teaching reading, writing and math?
